interval or increments

Are the 2 words interchangeable? How would you write each one?

The GPS tells us when we arrive our destination. Once we are 5 minutes away, the time counts down in 5-second increments/at 5-second intervals: 5:00, 4:55, 4:50, 4:45, etc.

Diopters are in increments of .25. so you can't have a prescription of -4.35.

Diopters are at intervals of .25. so you can't have a prescription of -4.35.

Be cause increments indicates increases, I would use itervals instead.
