Interpretations

I am totally confused and bewildered by the word Interpret. If the writer/author edits their post, then why do some people edit it? There is no perfect language and each person is educated to understand there language as it was taught to them (their way). Is Houston interpreted (house-ton or Houston? I love words but with all the definitions, it is hard to understand if this or that expression is correct in the readers eyes? I write apples and it's interpreted oranges. pljames

Where? In what instance? Linguists do not normally do so; though editors often do: many writers do not edit well, especially their own material.
