interpretation

Let me begin today by making a bold statement. It’d be hard to name a
creative work that seems more disconnected from anything that came
before than Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. Yet even it was built up
from many existing influences to which Picasso had been exposed, such
as ancient Greek sculpture, primitive art from Africa and the South
Pacific, and specific figures and compositions in the paintings of Cézanne
and Matisse.

Q) Does the first sentence mean most of creative work don't seem to be more disconnected from anything that came before Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon?

Why "than" is added? Is it different if it is left out?

Q2) What's the connection between 1st and 2nd sentence? Does 2nd sentence mean even though most of creative work are connected to "Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon," Picasso's work had also been influenced by many other work during or before his time?

The writer here is exaggerating a little, for effect. " When someone uses this construction, you can be fairly sure that what comes after it is a little exaggerated. ", which again is a kind of stock construction, used for effect, with what follows being understood to be something of an exaggeration.

  • with these stock phrases that imply exaggeration, is the originality of Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, which is quite different from most art of the time.

1. "It’d be hard to name a creative work that seems more disconnected from anything that came before than Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon." ... is saying that Les Demoiselles d’Avignon is extremely disconnected from anything that came before it -- more so (probably) than any other creative work.

It is required, because there is a comparison.

Simple comparisons are like this:
X is bigger than Y. This compares X and Y in terms of size. X is larger.
eg. The sun is bigger than the earth.

The following sentence is similar to but much simpler than yours:
