Internet or Internet or the internet

First question:

We used to write: Internet
But now I have seen it without the capitalized initial: internet
Which is correct now?

Second question:

Is it "using internet" or "using the internet"?

And is it the same for US and UK?

The capital letter is becoming rarer in the UK.

A number of style manuals recommend capitalizing the word. Well, at least they did the last time I checked...

But you are most certainly right about the capital letter version being headed for extinction in the UK. I think that Americans tend to capitalize it much more often than English speakers on the other side of the pond.

The internet has been losing its distinction as a proper noun.
I used to capitalize it, but more and more it is becoming just another common noun.

I usually write it as one word (webpage) and I don't capitalize it. But if I wrote it as two separate words, I'd use a capital 'W'.
