Internet in times of Coronavirus

The Coronavirus pandemic came to us to change several aspects of our daily lives: it showed us how fragile our health system is, it changed the guidelines in our work and also in our educational system. In order to study it is no longer possible to attend classes in person, whereby it was decided to have classes in the online mode. The problem is that not all students have free access to the Internet, and some do not have a computer either.

That said, I agree that if the school year could not be put on hold, the ideal thing would have been for the Ministry of Education to have had a plan to be able to provide internet to those students who demonstrate that they do not have access to a web connection. In my case, it was like this. The first two weeks of classes I could not connect because I did not have an internet service. I waited if the Ministry of Education would help us in any way, but it was not like that, forcing me to hire a mobile internet plan to be able to have access to the classes, which meant an extra expense.

For this reason I strongly agree that while we are being affected by the coronavirus, the ideal would be to have free access to the internet. In this way, it would ensure that all students in Chile have the same opportunities to learn and receive the corresponding academic content.
