Intermediate school

Hi! Is the term “intermediate school” or “**** ”, in any district of the U.S. (e.g. or wherever), used as “middle school” or “junior high school”? Thanks!

I'm only familar with the term junior high. This is for all of the west coast. I'm pretty sure that's what it is called on the east coast as well.

Thank you, Mr. DJ! One more question. For the senior part of secondary education, “high school” and “senior high school”, which one is the common term?

Hello Ms. Yolanda,

High school is the common term. We also call 9-12 grades by name, this goes for college as well.

9th grade = Freshman

10th grade = Sophomore

11th grade = Junior

12th grade = Senior

1st year in college (0-45 quarterly credits) = Freshman status

2nd year in college (56-90 quarterly credits) = Sophomore status
