In some places, there are many social problems involving teenagers. Some people say this is because parents spend much of their time at work and not at home. Do you agree or disagree?

Numerous social problems, such as reckless driving, smoking and breaking traffic signals have been increased recently. Most of them involve teenage boys and girls. It is commonly believed that this is because their parents do not spend enough time at home as they spend much of their time at work. I agree with this argument as rising cost of living and competing life have compelled parents to focus on their work.

Inflation is increasing day by day due to which living cost has increased considerably. Previously, in many families, only one spouse used to work as they were able to bear their expenses comfortably, but now both spouses have to work because of increase in expenses. This has resulted in lack of focus on their children who have become ill-mannered and have become the reason of myriad social issues. The police of UK, for instance, arrested around 500 young students in 2017 who were driving recklessly. It was discovered that both father and mother of all students were not spending much time at home due to hectic office work.

A competition among people is increasing rapidly as people think they will be left behind from others if they do not utilize their time effectively in office. Due to this, they not only come late from office but also spend their spare time in business meetings in order to increase their social contacts. As a result, their children fail to learn manners at home since they believe the everything, they are doing is right. Take Amsterdam for example, its 90% population does various jobs with overtime, due to which the children of many have started to smoke in public places.

In conclusion, increasing competition in life and cost of living have forced parents to focus on their work and spend considerable amount of time at office instead of staying with children at their home. Thus, many young people have become the cause of social problems.
