Some people believe that studying at university or college is the best route to a successful career, while others believe that it is better to get a job straight after school.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Everyone wants to complete their higher education nowadays. A few people are of the view that successful career can be achieved by studying at a university while others are opposed to this view and believe that getting a job right after school is the best option. Obtaining tertiary education, in my opinion, is crucial for a successful career because the syllabus of schools is not comprehensive enough; whereas, degree programs are comprehensive.

The curriculum of degree programs is usually wide, and students receive advance knowledge. That is to say that students learn details of each and every subject in higher education that is not possible to learn in schools. In other words, they study all the subjects in detail and obtain specialization, which increases their chances of success in obtaining jobs. Employers of Pakistan, for instance, prefer only those candidates who have completed four-years bachelor’s degree and do not offer jobs to those who have just completed secondary education from schools.

On the contrary, proponents of job after school believe that universities charge exorbitant fees which most students cannot afford. This is because there are only few educational institutes which provide quality degree programs to students. Even if people complete their higher education from these colleges, they do not receive higher salaries from their jobs. However, many young people still want to complete their education and enroll in colleges because they know that they will not be able to receive better employment opportunities. In the USA, for example, more than 60% graduates of schools enrolled for tertiary education despite higher fees.

In conclusion, although many people consider the job after school is the best option, I think completion of higher education provides much success in the careers.
