Some young people are leaving the countryside to live in cities and towns, leaving only old people in the countryside. What are the problems of this issue? What can be done to solve this problem?
More and more people are moving to cities because of better facilities. It is commonly believed that youth of today prefer to live in cities and are leaving rural areas. A Lack of universities and poor job prospects are the two causes due to which people leave countryside. This problem can be solved if a government opens outclass universities and increases job prospects for people.
Availability of universities and better job prospects persuade people to move to metropolitan areas. This is because after completing high school, students are unable to study further in rural areas which reduces their chances of obtaining jobs. Even if some students complete their tertiary education outside the rural areas, they fail to find jobs when they come back because of limited organizations there. For instance, Sukkur, a small town of Pakistan, does not have any university, and farming is the main occupation of people. Thus, many people send their children to major cities, such as Karachi, and Lahore so that they can complete their graduation.
The possible solutions to this problem are that a government should open colleges and encourage investors to expand business in the countryside. When it becomes possible for people of rural areas to achieve higher education and receive proper jobs, they will not be attracted towards cities as it will increase their cost. In other words, young generation will stay in rural areas instead of moving to cities if a government can provide them with means of higher education and occupation. Canada, for instance, opened the science college in a small town of Qubec in 2018. Had it not invested in that college, around 50,000 students would have moved to Toronto for completing their tertiary education.
In conclusion, young people are leaving countryside because of better job opportunities and availability of higher education in cities. Opening universities and encouraging investors to expand their businesses are the two best ways for solving this issue.
