interested in hearing you TRY or TRYING to...

I noticed a sentence on TV like this:
"I'm not interested in hearing you TRY to defend yourself."
so in this case, is the usage of TRY correct?
Is it okay if I say "I'm not interested in hearing you TRYING to defend yourself?"

I got confused about the grammar here.
