Intercessor VS interceder

Hi,

What is the difference between intercessor and interceder?

intercessor I've never encountered this word. I had to look it up to make sure it existed. I think most people would think it pretty odd.



interceder This sounds more normal. But I usually encounter the verb form instead of the noun. In other words, we commonly say eg 'Tom interceded'

Would you say the word 'arbitrator' is synonymous with the two former words?

intercede the main idea is to "come between two people". (inter = between)

This could even be physical, eg he interceded to stop the two men from fighting.



arbitrate - the main focus is on resolving a dispute between two people. This is usually done by a person specifically chosen to do it.
