Interacting, discontinuities

Hi, I understand that interacting is adj but I don't understand what it means in relation to continuities ...

The online dictionary shows me that * "discontinuities" are disrupt, I'm not so sure if it is correct in this context?

"World politics consists of interacting continuities and discontinuities"

*I found another phrase in the article that mention "discontinuities"
