intensive pronoun

The traditional policies of the company have been completely disregarded in this matter, as I have been told by the deputy manager ----.

A) itself
B) themselves
C) himself
D) myself
E) ourselves

A question from KPDS, quite clear that C is the required answer; but the thing I wonder is whether D is also possible from grammatical and/or semantical points of view.

Hi Mamger, Welcome to the Forum. C seems most likely, but I agree that D is a possibility. If so, it might more formally be written as The traditional policies of the company have been completely disregarded in this matter, as I myself have been told by the deputy manager.

The traditional policies of the company have been completely disregarded in this matter, as I have been told by the deputy manager myself?

No. D is not possible since “myself” would not relate to the person that actually did the talking. “Himself” was the correct answer to place emphasis on the deputy manager as the speaker.

If you want to rewrite the above sentence so that “myself” is the correct answer, then it must be rewritten as follows:

The traditional policies of the company have been completely disregarded in this matter, as the deputy manager has told me myself.

In this case, “myself” will emphasize “me”

it looked to me that I would say the sentence of "the deputy manager has told me myself." in the meaning of "it was me who the deputy manager gave this message, not someone else." Is my approach totally wrong?

No, that is the correct interpretation. That was why I stated that “myself” in this situation emphasized only the receiver of the communication, and not the speaker.

Hi,

Emphatic pronouns should be placed closest to the pronoun/noun they emphasize. Different interpretations may arise if this rule is not followed. Generally speaking, this is true, but in the case of

Thank you very much for your interest Clive and Likeguslee,

Actually related to the subject, we can find some explicit explanations, in some respectful grammar books, which justify the moving the intensive pronoun to the end of the sentence only when it emphasizes the subject and do not cause any ambiguity. This knowledge triggered me to think about the possibility of two ri
