instead OR instead of

Hi,

Can you help me to use the word and phrase "instead something" and "instead of something" correctly? Thank you.

Without the of , it is an adverb: I was too tired to get up; instead, I lay in bed all day. I don't want sushi tonight; I want ramen instead . Only as a phrasal prepostion ( instead of) would it be followed by a noun: I want ramen instead of sushi tonight .

I don't want sushi tonight; I want ramen instead

Only as a phrasal prepostion (instead of) would it be followed by a noun: I want ramen instead of sushi tonight.
