Instead of /rather than

Hi ,

What is the usage wise difference of "Inspite of " & "rather than " and If I want to start a sentence ,I should go with which one .

Instead of choosing A he has chosen B

Rather than choosing A he has chosen B

"Instead of" and "rather than" work about the same in your example.

"Inspite of" is also fine for starting a sentence, but it suggests that the action was performed counter to advice or evidence that it might be unwise, not as a seemingly random choice, as with "instead of" and "rather than."
