Instead of + ?

Hello. Could you please tell me wihich one is correct?

I would have saved it instead of throwing away.

I would have saved it instead of having thrown away.

I think the first sentence is correct, but since the sentence is 'past tense', it makes me wonder.

NugsoI would have saved it instead of throwing it away. I would have saved it instead of having thrown away.
Use only the first (as shown). The second one is not good.
