Could you please tell me which of these uses of the word instead, is correct?
1.I walk back over to the bureau and place the candle down on it. I’ll save that for later, I think to myself, and instead, pull out a scarf.

I like the sound of the first sentence. It sounds more poetic(?), if that makes any sense. I'm new to this whole writing thing. Please help me out. Thanks!
