"insect questions"

Hi,
  • horsefly, gadfly, cleg
Just three different names of the same insect?
Which one is more "common" in YOUR area?
'cleg' is the most formal ("scientific") of the three?
  • wasp vs yellow-jacket
I wonder if both these names are used frequently enough in your area/"your" English.
