Inquire into/of

A detailed inquiry in the incident has been initiated by the Central Government.

My book says that it should be 'inquire into'

As per my understanding, we 'inquire of' someone' and 'inquire into complaint/incident' etc. please let me know if my understanding about 'inquire' is correct.
