In/on (the) bed

in (the) bed = (under the covers)
on (the) bed = (on top of the covers)
1. When I was a child, I liked reading comic books in bed.
2. When I was a child, I liked reading comic books on bed.
3. He is sleeping in the bed next to the door.
4. He is sleeping on the bed next to the door.


#1, #3 and #4 are supposed to be correct. Is #2 acceptable?

hi..i just want to clarify.. if we can't say "on bed" does that mean we have to use an article or pronoun before bed? like

"It's on the bed." ?

"I'm reading a book on my bed."
