That's what I thought first. But I kind of remember a native speaker saying that if those eggs were in the refrigerator it would sound as if they were magical eggs hanging in the air in the refrigerator, which was strange. I wonder if my memory serves me right, so I asked the question.

There is a whiteboard on the classroom. (If somebody asked me to put a whiteboard on the classroom, I would not know where to place it. It's like asking me to put it under the classroom.)
I completely agree. If someone told you that "in the refrigerator" sounded like they were hanging in air, that person has a very strange understanding of English.
