I recently used "inhuman" to mean "not human/supernatural" but somebody corrected me, saying that "inhuman" means "cruel, lacking sympathy" and that I should use "nonhuman" instead.
Some dictionaries list "not human" as a secondary or tertiary definition of "inhuman". Is this a very uncommon usage? If I used the word in this way, would readers misunderstand?
