During the annual salmon migation from the sea to the fresh water, Alaska's McNell River becomes a gathering place for brown bears waiting eagerly to catch their fill.

I do not know why is "a gathering place" but a gathered place?

daotiensinh During the annual salmon migation from the sea to the fresh water, Alaska's McNell River becomes a gathering place for brown bears waiting eagerly to catch their fill. I do not know why it is "a gathering place", not a 'gathered place'. This is not a direct question, so you don't need a question mark at the end.

  • The place is not gathered; no one gathered that place.
  • A place where fish gather is a 'gathering place', just as a place cows drink at is a 'drinking place', not a 'drank place'.
