-ing Forms

Hi,

Listening to the English songs, you can improve your language skills.

Speaking of your uncle, I saw him in the backstreet the other day.

These two sentences somehow seem to be incomplete to me. Because of the usages of the "ing forms".

If you ask me, I'll rewrite these sentences as below;

By(with) listening to the English songs, you can improve your language skills. (Same as "I'll come (by) running").

While we were speaking of your uncle, I saw him in the backstreet the other day.

My question is here: can we use these rules everywhere?

Opening your eyes more widely, you can see that UFO. OR

(While we were) Doing the laundry, when will your daughter come and iron these?

Is making these sentences above OK? It might be very casual no problem but do they make any sense?

Thanks in advance...
