ing-form

What is the difference between "freaking awesome" and "freakingly awesome"? I mean grammarwise. When do you have to append "ly" to the ing-form?

The word 'freaking' is a slang term used as a euphemism for 'f*cking'. It does not lend itself to conversion to the adverbial form.

freaking - adjective
freakingly - adverb

Adjectives don't normally modify other adjectives, but this is a very casual expression that doesn't follow the rule.
