hi

i'm doing my GCSE's and today i got this question

.........................,he started to work even harder

1-being promoted

2-having promoted

I guess, "having promoted" makes more sense than "being promoted" in your case.

Having promoted - the subject promoted therefore this is active

Being promoted - the promotion happened to the subject therfore it is passive. Hence the answer is being promoted he worked even harder.

If the subject does something it is active if something happens to it then

Oh, really, sorry, I seem not to have taken a look at it carefully.

What I actually meant was "having been promoted" but since there's no such an option, the OP should use "being promoted". But I would point out that "having been promoted" is still better than "being promoted".
