-ing clause(chess)

Hi.
Can

"White promotes to the numerically inferior Knight, calling check and forking Black's King and Queen."

Be restated as:
"White promotes to the numerically inferior Knight, which calls check and forking Black's King and Queen."?

Thanks in advance

I would understand it, yes, but of course it is the player, not the knight, who calls 'Check!' If you change 'which' to 'who'

How do you tell that, MM?
I know some ~ing-clauses express co-occuringnss, right?

Common sense and one's knowledge of the real life that language represents: you turn your **** into a knight and as soon as the piece is returned to the board, the king is in check.
