Ing clause modified by adverbial clause

Are both OK?

Which is better?

Background: John was not selcted to play for the soccer team. I felt sorry for him, so I accepted his request to be manager.

a) Feeling sorry for John, because I know how much he loves soccer, I told him his being a manager is fine with me.



b) Because I felt sorry for him, because I know how much he loves, I told him his being a manager is fine with me.

Your a version is okay. Your "because..., because..." b version is not.
