Hi, thanks

But this doesn't show that I felt sorry for him because I know how much he loves football

Knowing how much he loves soccer [okay Dave -"football"], I felt sorry for John when he didn't make the team and told him it would be okay if he were manager.

Is my version a still Ok though? Why is it not as good as yours? (I feel yours is better. Not sure why).

Your a version is okay. Your "because..., because..." b version is not.
