Hi, I will tentatively say that both versions could be fine, but more context would help me be more definite. Sue

Hi,

I will tentatively say that both versions could be fine, but more context would help me be more definite.

navy green 963Informing means saving a life.

The gerund is almost always preferred over the infinitive in the subject position, so this one is OK.

navy green 963To inform is to save a life.

However, the infinitive does occur as subject in aphoristic claims such as this one, so I'd go with this one.
