Informal words

Hello,I think it was yesterday that I used a "gimme" word and an anonymous answer told me I'd better not use words like that or things like "gotta" or "gonna",I mean yes I know that they're informal but I don't think they're in most cases offensive in any way;Or maybe I'm missing something?Share what you know please.
