Informal Letter Asking For Advice

I am writing an informal letter - sking a friend for help. I do not know the exact theme yet so I only have introductory and the end but I would like to know if it is written correctly and if the grammar is right......This is the letter:

Dear Jack,
How are you doing? I've heard your parents got divorced. I'm very sorry about that. I hope you're not too upset.
The weather is pretty bad here at the moment. It's really cold and it just won't stop raining so I decided to take the opportunity and write you now since I have nothing else to do.

(now comes the part where I talk about the specific problem which I don't know about yet so I'll just write some exaples of asking for help)

I'm writing to ask for your advice.
I'm going through some serious problems and I could really use some help.
I'd really appreciate it if you could give me some advice.
Please let me know about what I should do.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Give my regards to your family and I also hope to see you soon.

With love,
your good friend xxxxx

The grammar is perfect, except you should say

"...I decided to take the opportunity and write to you now..."
"Give my regards to your family and I hope to see you soon."

Also, at the end instead of "your good friend" it's more normal to just write your name.
