Informal endings in letters

What is the difference between "I shall look forward to seeing you" and "I am looking forward to seeing you". Is the first one more formal or may be old english?

Top answer

"Shall" is an older form of future tense. It is still used in legal documents, but not very much in conversational English. It literally means: I am not looking forward to seeing you now.
