Influence?

Is it true that many of the practices of European American youth cultures, including linguistic practices, are borrowed from African American teenagers?

That would be a resounding "Yes" for American youth. I suspect it might be less so for Europeans. I think the influence is not directly from African American teenagers, though, but indirectly through African Americans in this and the next older age group who are well-known and popular musical artists or other types of entertainers or sports figures.
