A research study is important because it may create awareness of health professionals of the need of critically appraising pharmaceutical promotion giving that only 3 -15% of new medications that have been promoted by pharmaceutical companies offer real advances over existing medications. Furthermore, the awareness about the importance of critically evaluating pharmaceutical promotion may discourage the use of new, expensive and with minor advantages medications which may reduce the financial pressure to the national expenditure on medications.
