Please let me know which sentence (a or b) is correct, and a detailed explanation will be very appreciated. My understanding is that "-ing forms" can't be used for purposes of actions, but they can be seen in some literature. Would both be ok to use?
1-a, An autopsy was performed for cralifying the cause of death.
1-b, An autopsy was performed to cralify the cause of death.
2-a, The abdominal part of the patient was touched with a forefinger for detecting any sign.
2-b, The abdominal part of the patient was touched with a forefinger to detect any sign.
3-a, For measuring their body weight, a plate was put on the scale and the level was set at zero.
3-b, To measure their body weight, a plate was put on the scale and the level was set at zero.
Thank you advance.
