Which are correct:

1-These dogs are trained to work in extreme conditions.
2-These dogs are trained for working in extreme conditions.

3-These tyres are made to last.
4-These tyres are made for lasting.

  • A lot of it really depends on contexts.
  • For instance, if I use the same construction as # 3 but change the noun to shoes: " These shoes are made for running ", it is the gerund form that is correct.
