Infinitive / present participle

Thanks in prior...

1. I'm all against sexism, but I don't want my wife to earn more than I do. (It sounds as if I can choose or control my wife's earning power)

2. I'm all against sexism, but I don't want my wife earning more than I do. (the present participle modifies my wife)

Is my opinion correct?

Do you have something to share with me?

I don't really hear a difference there.
