·Once human began cultivating crops, they began looking for salt to add to their diet.

About the 'add' in bold, is it transitive or intransitive?
And if 'to add...' was replace with 'in order to add...' as:
·Once human began cultivating crops, they began looking for salt in order to add to their diet.
