Infinitive

We heard the children sing during the party.

May I know why is it not " We heard the children sang during the party."

I thought it's a past tense as the singing was already over.

Not the difference between:

I heard (that) she sang ... - Somebody told me that she sang. I did not hear her myself.
I heard her sing ... - She sang, and I heard her.
I heard her singing ... - She was singing, and I heard her.
