Infinitival complement of adjectives

I read in a grammar book that, "Football is exciting to watch", can be interpreted as "It is exciting to watch football",

similarly, "These mushrooms are safe to eat" can be interpreted as "It is safe to eat these mushrooms".

If this rule is correct, then are the following sentences acceptable ?

1. This drink is sweet to taste.

2. The apples are good to eat.

Top answer

#2 is fine, but #1 sounds a little odd – probably because we have another common idiomatic form: This drink is sweet to the taste.
