Industrialized countries have serious environmental problems. Damage is inevitable to improve living standards. Agree?

Nowadays, an increasing number of people are concerned about impacts industrialisation has on the environment. While many believe that it is impossible to have industrial thrive while preserving natural habitats, I would argue that these two factors can go hand-in-hand and the achievements from industry can help solve environmental issues.

That innovations from industry makes contribution to improve air quality is obvious. For example, new advances in technology of cars industry have made fuel-efficient or hybrid vehicles a reality; solar power, which is endless and less polluted than fossil fuels, is replacing traditional energy sources in developed countries. So, authorities, in order to protect the environment, should give top priority to industrial growth.

Moreover, the natural condition is, de facto, better in countries with sustainable economic growth than in developing countries. This is because, in these countries strict laws are enacted to discourage harmful activities to the natural habitats, and penalties are often addressed to companies or individuals who offend envionment-protection rules. In addition, heavy fines could be a powerful warning to other companies and assist to prevent future violations.

That is not to say that industry is always beneficial to nature. In some areas, gas emissions from vehicles contaminate air; heavy metals from computer production destroy water quality and buried waste from factories poison soil whenever being absorbed. Yet, these drawbacks can be offset with advances in technology and punishments of governments.

In sum, economic growth do not conflict with the act of protection for the Mother Earth. Indeed, these two categories can be complementary to build up a beautiful planet for our next generations.
