Indirect speech question

Dear teachers

John said, "Thank you, Jane."

Jane said, "Sir, don't thank me."

Is the following indirect speech correct?

John thanked Jane but Jane asked John not to thank her.

I'm concerned about the "sir" part. Should the indirect speech contain something to that effect?

Thank you

Thank you.
