Indirect speech

She said "She had better do her homework."
She said she had better do her her homework.

Is it correct?

Say eg She said the girl had better do her homework.

Apart from the "her her" typo yes. However, without context, the two "she"s in the second sentence might be understood to refer to the same person, whereas in the first sentence it is clear that they do not. This may or may not be a problem, depending on context.

In careful or formal English, I like to include "that", i.e. I would prefer "She said that ...". However, in everyday English "
