Indirect Object

I accept the correctness of the following usages of the verb 'give', where a direct object and a indirect object are used:

"The cashier gave the wrong change to the customer."
"The new drug gives new hope to many sufferers."
"Delaying the plant closure gives some certainty to the workers."

But I wonder if these would be correct English as well, where the indirect object is dropped:

"The cashier gave the wrong change."
"The new drug gives new hope."
"Delaying the plant closure gives some certainty."
