Indignant at the presumption

Hello

A certain woman who is psychic said: Because of my total involvement in learning about esoteric teachings, I used to feel indignant at the presumption that all religious orientation counter to psychic development was wrong, stupid, and paranoid. But I have matured and grown to understand the need behind the conventional, sweeping rejections of psychic ability by the church. Unfortunately there are many manipulative and unscrupulous people posing as psychics in the world who cleverly take advantage of vulnerable people.

--- How do you guys understand that sentence in bold?

Top answer

The paragraph doesn't make any sense to me. In the bold sentence she essentially seems to be saying that she used to support religious opposition to "psychic development" (since she opposed the presumption that it was wrong). This seems to be contradicted in the next sentence when she says that she only later came to understand this opposition and presents this as a change of mind.
