indicated, indicates or indicating?

The document has 2 pages. Which one is correct? 1. The record indicated that the document has two pages. 2. The record indicates that the document has two pages. 3.The record is indicating that the document has two pages. and why?

#1 could be problematic because the document may not exist anymore.
Without further context, I can't see the justification for the use of the present continuous in #3.

It seems to me that it would be very rare for an inanimate object to be indicating a fact. The -ing makes it sound like an action. I'm sure the record is not waving its little arms about.
