Which one is correct?

1- India is the seventh largest country in the world, having a population of over 1.3 billion people.

2- India having a population of over 1.3 billion people is the seventh largest country in the world.

This is OK, though most naturally I would write "with" instead of "having". The word "people" is somewhat redundant.
