  • These are alternate spellings, but 'indices' sounds a bit more technical and is less common in everyday speech.

The Economist.com Style Guide says:

indexes (of books), but indices (indicators, index numbers).

Thanks for greetings and thanks for the suggestions. The main problem is that in the literature the two have been used as synonyms...

So, im my case indices should be the correct one?

cheers,

inomics

P.S. I used to dance the tango.

Yes, I would use "indices". But since Clive says they are both acceptable, you could use either plural Emotion: smile

Hi,

Google finds hits thus:

price indices - 1,500,000

price indexes - 2,720,000

Best wishes again, Clive

I am always a user of "indices."

index (în´dèks´) noun plural indexes or indices (-dî-sêz´)

They are "six of one and half a dozen of the other"

I vote for indices in every instances EXCEPT pricing. We have to mention the 3-Month LIBOR index at my job a lot, and it's standard within the financial communitiy to uses indexed. It caught in my craw in the beginning, but I don't even wince now. I just type it and move on.

Hi - Because I forgot to sign in, in a few moments my anonymous post will make it on here, I guess. Anyway, I'm the one who has to write about the 3-Month LIBOR index, one of many indexes used to determine pricing of loan products. A bit of a time warp, since my earlier post will appear later, but there you go.
