Hi,

Then let me just make a few general but basic comments, in the context of a book.

index - may appear at the front of a book, or at the back. It allows the reader to access the content of the book, by referencing page numbers.

appendix - is any section that is placed at the end of a book. eg a list of references, eg inform

Not in my experience. I always find them at the end.

Hi,

An index at the front (eg a list of chapters) is more commonly referred to as 'a table of contents', particularly for books that are non-fiction.

Does the appendix contain the 'glossary' of the book as well or the 'glossary' is a 'section' on its own?

Hi,
A glossary is more likely to be a separate appendix. The plural of 'appendix' is 'appendices'.

'Appendix' is a fancy word for a section added at the end. There are no detailed rules about when to have one or about what to put in one.
