Independent versus dependent clauses

Hi Everyone,

So, this week, I'm teaching 'clauses'. I get the whole concept, but I still need some clarity around this example:

I love eating chocolate, and I enjoy going to coffee shops.

In this sentence, would you say there are two independent clauses, thus making a compound sentence that is simply joined by the subordinating conjunction 'and', or is there one independent clause 'I love eating chocolate', followed by a dependent clause 'and I enjoy going to coffee shops.'

Different resources say different things.

Thanks,

Yes, they form a coordination of two independent clauses. The coordinator "and" is part of the second coordinate.
